Historic Franklin

Welcome Home!

Located minutes from Nashville, Williamson County is a stunning countryside of gentle rolling hills, magnificent horse farms, and the rambling Harpeth River.  The area has a long and rich history dating back to the late 18th century (the county borders were established in 1799).  Established in 1799, Historic Franklin is rich in Civil War history and was the heart of Middle Tennessee plantation country in the mid 19th century.  In fact, many of the ante-bellum plantation homes are still in existence today. Neighboring communities, like that of Leipers Fork, also hold rich histories and are home to numerous prize-winning horse farms as well as many country music stars.

This unique area offers a perfect blend of laid-back rural lifestyle and the convenience and sophistication of a lively urban environment. Williamson county also enjoys the highest per capita income in the state of Tennessee, which is reflected in the quality of our schools, parks, shopping, and a wide choice of recreational opportunities.

Franklin and Williamson county house many opportunities for recreation.  Besides the natural beauty and solitude of Franklin, the close proximity to Nashville offers everyone a chance to enjoy theatre, dining and sports, including football, hockey, baseball, soccer and motor sports.  Of particular beauty is the picturesque Natchez Trace Parkway - a modern scenic parkway unsurpassed in its natural, unspoiled beauty and always of interest to those wishing to escape on a long drive, horseback ride or bicycle ride.
